Biography
I trained in Histopathology for 6 years and worked for Department of Health before joining the University of Nottingham. I am currently a Senior Technician and in both the faculty of Life Science and the Nanoscale and Microscale Research Centre and have worked at the at the University of Nottingham for 20 years.
I have been accredited as a Registered Scientist by the Institute of Science and Technology, through the Science Council and I am also a Fellow of the Royal Microscopical Society. My expertise are in the areas of Electron Microscopy and Histology and I support a host of individuals whose research has an impact in the pharmaceutical, health and beauty consumer goods, pet food companies as well as various government agencies and many scientific institutes. I also use my expertise to support research projects for professors, research fellows, undergraduate and PhD students at the University. Through a widening participation scheme at the University, I am also able to demonstrate techniques used in Electron and Light Microscopy.
I have been co-author on and have been recognized in numerous reputable scientific papers. I have also been acknowledged for contributing in processing samples for images in a world renown medical textbook; Pathology, written by Stevens and Lowe. I sit on various groups and committees within the University and externally. These include the Women's Staff Network, Specialist Advisor for The National Technician Development Centre and The Equality and Diversity Board for the Institute of Science and Technology. I am passionate about flying the flag for science and have taken part in several campaigns through the years, some of which are highlighted below.
I took part in a YouTube video which features an array of technical expertise across the University campus. This was aimed at championing the technical workforce… "the Unsung Heroes" of the University.

I was asked, along with some of my colleagues from different disciplines across the University, to take part in a national campaign for The Department of Work and Pensions. The campaign was entitled #NotJustForBoys and the aim was to promote and highlight the invaluable contribution women make to Science.

I am a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) ambassador and have a passion for introducing young people to the world of science through outreach projects in Primary and Secondary Schools.
