Biography

Tristan Lawrie is an EPSRC Postdoctoral Prize Fellow at the University of Nottingham, working in applied mathematics, physics, and engineering. He completed his Master's Degree in Physics at Cardiff University in 2018, achieving First Class Honors.

Tristan earned his PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Nottingham in September 2024. His research focused on expanding the scattering formalism of quantum graph theory to model metamaterials, for which he was awarded the Andrew Cliffe Memorial Prize for Applied Mathematics. He has published extensively on a broad range of topics, including both classical and quantum wave scattering in complex networks, engineering metamaterials for vibration attenuation, and structural health monitoring via inverse processes.

Tristan was awarded the Adelaide-Nottingham Alliance partnership seed fund to conduct joint research between the University of Nottingham and the University of Adelaide, focusing on renewable ocean wave energy harvesting. He is a frequent speaker and contributor at several prestigious national and international conferences and seminars, including the Isaac Newton Institute (INI) in Cambridge and the London Mathematical Society (LMS) Symposium on Operators, Asymptotics, and Waves.

Tristan's current research focuses on quantum information theory, the design of Fourier filters for imaging and computing applications, and time-varying metamaterials.
