Annual staff awards

As a School we want to celebrate our staff for their incredible contributions to the School of Medicine and the University of Nottingham. Every year we hold these awards to celebrate our people.

Nominate

Nominations are welcome from colleagues, students, collaborators and partners, from across the university and externally.

When nominating, please provide as much detail as possible on why you think your nominee(s) deserve an award, including specific examples of work carried out in the last 12 months and a clear explanation of the impact achieved, in no more than 500 words. 

The information for each category states who is eligible to be nominated for that award - see the categories below.​

There is no limit to the number of nominations that can be made, but a new form must be completed each time.

Categories

Dean’s Special Recognition

This award seeks to recognise an individual who has made a significant positive impact on the School. It may be through long service in a particular area or function, significant innovation which has demonstrable impact, or a sustained excellent contribution over many years in a particular field.

Award open to: School of Medicine staff member.

Please note: Only the Dean and Head of the School of Medicine can nominate an individual for this award.


Early Career Researcher

This award seeks to recognise an individual early career researcher (ECR) and their success and achievement in the School. This achievement could relate to an activity led by an ECR who has enhanced the School culture and/or its educational or research aspirations.

Award open to: School of Medicine Early Career Researcher.

Definition of an ECR: The ECR Working Group defined an ECR as members of staff in the School of Medicine on Level 4a, Level 4 or Level 5 R&T, R, or T contracts.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Contribution

This award seeks to recognise an individual who has demonstrated a true commitment to advancing the School EDI priorities and culture in any aspect of their work. 

Award open to: School of Medicine staff member.

Support of the School of Medicine

This award seeks to recognise an individual who does not work in the School yet whose work with the School has helped it move forward in reaching its ambition for excellence in education and/or research. 

Award open to: Any colleague who is not a School of Medicine staff member but contributes to the School's work and success.

Inspirational Leadership

This award seeks to recognise an individual who has demonstrated exceptional leadership across any aspect of the work of the School. It recognises leadership which has inspired other colleagues, and which demonstrates the core values integral to the University. This award is open to staff from across all job families and levels.

Inspirational Colleague

This award seeks to recognise an individual who fosters a collaborative and positive work environment and serves as a role model, mentor/or an inspiration to others.

Award open to: School of Medicine staff member.

School Community

This award seeks to recognise an individual who has significantly impacted our students, staff, stakeholders or whole School community. It may extend to any activities where there is a significant effect on support, development, wellbeing, or welfare.  

Award open to: School of Medicine staff member.

Outstanding Team

This award seeks to recognise the collective efforts of a team within the School. It may be in any area related to the work of the School and will be in recognition to efforts which have yielded a significant benefit to the School in any aspect of its work.

Award open to: School of Medicine Team members.

Professional Services (Administrative Professional Managerial - APM)

This award seeks to recognise an individual who has demonstrated excellence within the Professional Services APM community within the School. It may be in any area related to the work of the School, individuals will have made a significant, positive or excellent contribution to the School.  

Award open to: School of Medicine APM staff member.


Professional Services (Technical Services - TS)

This award seeks to recognise an individual who has demonstrated excellence within the Professional Services TS community within the School. It may be in any area related to the work of the School, individuals will have made a significant, positive or excellent contribution to the School.

Award open to: School of Medicine TS staff member.
 

Public Engagement/Community Contribution

This award seeks to recognise an individual who has made a significant impact through engaging the public either at a local, national or international level. This award may be for outreach activities, widening participation or other activities where the community has clearly benefited from the activities of the School. 

Award open to: School of Medicine staff member.


Research Contribution

This award seeks to recognise an individual or team who has made a significant impact in terms of research. This may be demonstrated through a specific project, programme of research and may include research impact where demonstrable benefit to the local, national or international community is evident.

Award open to: School of Medicine staff member.


Teaching Contribution

This award seeks to recognise an individual who has demonstrated excellence in their teaching contribution at either the Undergraduate, Postgraduate Taught or Postgraduate Research level. It recognises high levels of teaching excellence, educational leadership and/or innovation in teaching delivery.

Lorna Magowan Award for Service Excellence

This award seeks to recognise an individual who has demonstrated excellence by constantly delivering service that exemplifies the University values.

Award open to: School of Medicine staff member.

 

Student Experience

This award seeks to recognise an individual who has enhanced the student experience. This may be for a specific group (e.g. specific course or module) of students or more broadly (e.g. Postgraduate Taught students across the School). Individuals working either at the Undergraduate, Postgraduate Taught or Postgraduate Research are eligible to be nominated for this award.
