Teaching Associate, Faculty of Social Sciences
I am a Teaching Associate at the School of Sociology and Social Policy. I completed a PhD in Social Policy and Administration in 2020 with a thesis that focuses on the labour market policy process in the kingdom of Bahrain. My PhD thesis explores migrant labour market governance in the Kingdom of Bahrain between 2002 until 2016. The thesis questions the role of different actors and interest groups in the policy process and how that role changed throughout the years. The thesis sheds light on how and why those actors influenced policy outcomes by applying sociological analysis to the interactions between agency and structure.
The thesis explores the agency of actors, perception of context and policy process and how they affected the choices of collective actions that those actors applied to influence the policy outcomes. This exploration spans from when Bahrain witnessed a political reform in 2001 to post Arab Spring. The thesis reflects how the decline in social cohesion impacted the choices and role of interest groups within the policy process.
