Blowsoc
At the heart of the playing scene on campus, Blowsoc has nine ensembles covering woodwind, brass, percussion, double bass, and big band jazz players.
Catering for beginners' to level 8, the emphasis is on playing and having fun.
It's not all music making, with regular socials and an annual European tour all part of the mix.
Online-aganza
When pandemic lockdowns interrupted in-person rehearsals Blowsoc kept their musical community intact.
Mussoc
The other core society for music makers, Mussoc, runs both auditioned and unauditioned groups.
Ensembles include symphony, string and early music orchestras, jazz group, salsa players and vocal groups covering opera, barbershop, chamber and more.
The social life is just as important, along with a not to be missed European tour.
Viva Voce
Mussoc's auditioned choir share their vocal skills in the Department of Music's rehearsal hall.
University orchestra
This auditioned orchestra is open to students, staff and alumni. Rehearsed by professional conductors they perform challenging work to a high standard. Working towards two or three concerts a year they usually join with the university choir for stunning performances at notable Nottingham venues like the Albert Hall or St Mary's Church.

Chart-topping London Grammar formed while students here. They were all living in Ancaster Hall at the time, Dan saw a photo of Hannah playing a guitar and the rest, as they say, is history!
