Faculty of Arts

Our masters degrees

We've got masters degrees of many shapes and sizes. From one year taught courses to part-time research ones you can build your knowledge and develop your skills to the next level.

Which masters is right for you?

MA or MSc

Mainly taught modules plus a 12 to 15,000 word dissertation on an area you are especially interested in.

MRes

Focussed on a research project producing a 30,000 word dissertation. You will usually take some taught modules connected to your research.

MPhil

Like a mini-PhD. You'll produce a shorter thesis over a shorter period. Ideal if you are keen to research but don't have the time to commit to a full PhD.

The biggest difference I’ve noticed with the MA has been the interdisciplinary feel.

You’re having to engage with not just the information, but the theory that goes behind it and the different approaches – whether from a sociological, political, historical or psychological perspective.
