Careers Success

Graduates from the School of Biosciences are very successful in finding relevant employment or further training.

A biosciences degree from Nottingham provides a strong foundation for those who want to pursue a scientific career, but equally equips students with transferable skills and knowledge, allowing them to compete for positions across a broad range of professional fields.

Recent surveys show that Biosciences’ graduates are working in the food, pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, research institutes, agriculture and the food supply chain, government bodies, the legal sector, finance, publishing and the media, business consultancy, general management, retail and hospitality.

Official career statistics: first jobs achievement

Every year figures are collected from graduates which contribute to the University’s official return to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), recording a snapshot of graduates’ activity six months after graduation.

Latest information collected for 2015/16 shows that 93.1% of undergraduates who were available for employment had secured work or further study within six months of graduation. (Data excludes international students).

The average starting salary was £21,597, with the highest being £30,000.

Some graduates do research at PhD level so that they can pursue a future research career either in academia, government institutions or industry; others specialise via MSc taught courses.
