Part Time Study

As part of our commitment to flexible learning and study options, the School of Biosciences welcomes applications from students who would wish to study for a degree on a part-time basis. A part-time course is one where the length of time required for completion is longer than the expected maximum for a full-time course leading to the same qualification (normally 3 years for undergraduate honours degree courses).

The requirement for our modular undergraduate BSc courses is the completion of 360 credits. Periods of part-time study are weighted 0.5 in comparison to full-time study. The regulations  can be viewed at  http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/academicservices/qualitymanual/qastructures/unqf.aspx

The School does not offer degrees through distance learning (apart from the MSc in Brewing Science, some of which is delivered by distance learning), correspondence course or through evening/weekend classes. All modules are taught between 0900 and 1800 each day, and students should expect to spend between 2 and 4 hours a week in classes, for each 10 credit module that they study. Timetables will be dependent upon modules selected and will made available by the School in advance of registration.

For some courses, for example the Master of Nutrition (B401) degree, clinical placements and other activities that are essential for completion of the course may prevent study on a part-time basis. Courses with a Certificate in European Studies (Biosciences) can take the Nottingham based part of the course on a part-time basis, but the compulsory European placement year may only be taken on a full-time basis. Potential applicants should consult the relevant admissions tutors for further information.

Part time study is only available to UK and European Union applicants (or the spouses of international students who are permitted to reside the UK on their spouses student visa). Please complete the application form and submit it along with any transcripts, certificates or references required. Your application will be considered and you will be notified of the decision. You may be called in for an interview to assess your suitability if your application is non-standard or if you are a mature applicant or haven’t been in full time education for a while.
