PRME UK and Ireland Business and Society Research Development Workshop Series

Are you looking to publish business and society research in top journals and have impact in the world? Do you have work in progress that would benefit from expert feedback from senior scholars?

PRME UK and Ireland, in conjunction with partner institutions (City University London, University of Bath, University College Dublin, University of Glasgow, and University of Nottingham) is holding a series of five paper development workshops to help early and mid-career scholars develop their business and society work for publication and impact. The fourth workshop in the 2021-2025 series is hosted by the International Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility (ICCSR), Nottingham University Business School on Friday 8 November 2024.

Participants at the workshop will benefit from guidance from experienced scholars and journal editors/associate editors, and get insight on what it takes to publish papers with a business and society focus in leading peer reviewed journals. They will also receive intensive feedback on their work in progress from mentors during the workshop. They will have time to meet and discuss informally with journal editors, mentors and experienced scholars who include the following: Amon Simba, Andrew Crane, Anne Touboulic, Ans Kolk, Baniyelme Zoogah, Bobby Banerjee, Christopher Ives, Ciara Hackett, Collins Ntim, Emmanuel Adegbite, Hendrik Vollmer, Isobel O'Neil, Johanne Ward-Grosvold, Jonatan Pinkse, Judy Muthuri, Lauren McCarthy, Louise Hassan, Mehdi Boussebaa, Mette Morsing, Mollie Painter, Musa Mangema, Patricia Lewis, Prithviraj Chattopadhyay, Sarah Glozer, Stefan Gold, Subhan Ullah, Tam Nguyen, and Vivek Soundararajan.

The workshop will include the following:

  • Editors’ panel will discuss how to publish business and society research in both specialist business and society journals and general management journals, featuring editors from the following journals: Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of International Business Policy, Academy of Management Discoveries, International Small Business Journal, Journal of Business Ethics, and Business Ethics Quarterly.
  • A research roundtable panel will discuss researching emerging societal issues and provide insights on the research methodologies that journals are looking for, including emerging opportunities and challenges. The roundtable panel will include two editors and associate editors of the following journals: Human Relations, Journal of World Business, Business & Society, Organization & Environment, and Business Ethics, Environment and Responsibility.
  • One to one mentoring, and paper feedback session with senior scholars in small groups comprising only two manuscripts.
  • Networking session with academic experts, editors and associate editors from leading specialist business and society journals.

To apply to the workshop, you need to submit a work in progress paper that you are targeting for journal submission. We welcome the submission of both empirical papers (quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods) and purely theoretical work. Accepted papers MUST be in the broad field of business and society.

Priority will be given to papers that:

  • are high quality works in progress
  • have potential for publication in top tier journals
  • are focused on topics related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
