Accessing and using Moodle

Logging in to Moodle

Once you have completed online registration with the university, you will gain access to Moodle, our virtual learning environment (VLE), approximately 48 hours later.

You will need to log in with your username, beginning with aly, (not aly...@nottingham.ac.uk, which is your full email address) and the password you created when you completed online registration.

What you will see on Moodle

When you log in to Moodle you will see a module overview list which will include:

The main presessional Moodle page contains key information about the presessional courses, key contacts, and information about administrative processes, for example requesting an authorised absence. It also contains information and links to university and online resources which will help you on your course.

Your module Moodle page contains key information about your course, the calendar and materials as well as some pre-course tasks for you to complete during induction week and in week one. It also contains information about submissions and assessment, as well as monitored independent study tasks.

The EAP toolkit gives you access to online learning resources for independent study.

Personalising Moodle

You might like to add a profile picture so that your forum postings will have a more personal touch. To do this, click on your name (towards the top right of the screen), select 'Preferences', and then select 'Edit profile'.

From the ‘Preferences’ page you will also be able to choose to receive a daily digest of all the module and course forum posts, rather than an individual email for each post. Just select 'Forum preferences' to explore the options available to you.

Don’t forget, you will have a dedicated induction session on Moodle and MS Teams, so don’t worry if you’ve never used Moodle before. We are here to help!

If you have problems accessing Moodle or your email account, or if you have any IT issues throughout the course, please contact the Digital and Technology Services as soon as possible by accessing the Self Service Portal or by telephone on +44 (0) 115 951 6677.
