History of the CEVM
The idea to set up a Centre for Evidence-based Veterinary Medicine was conceived in the early days of Nottingham Vet School when the research direction of the new School was being discussed. Professor Hywel Williams, Director of the Centre of Evidence Based Dermatology at the University of Nottingham was instrumental in conceiving the idea and remains one of our top supporters.
Dr Rachel Dean and Dr Marnie Brennan were appointed in 2009. Our first PhD students, Natalie Robinson and Julie Jones-Diette, and our first postdoctoral research fellow, Dr Jenny Stavisky, joined us in Summer 2010. They were soon followed by our other postdocs Drs Martin Downes, Kathryn Wareham and Torben Neilsen. In March 2011 we were delighted to have Dr Douglas Grindlay, an information specialist, join our team. Douglas had previously worked in the Centre of Evidence Based Dermatology, so our links with this experienced team have been strengthened. We now have a further 8 PhD students working within the CEVM team.
The initial work of the CEVM has been supported by and unrestrictive grant from the University of Nottingham and Novartis Animal Health. Some of our PhD students are also supported by DairyCo and Dogs Trust. We have received funding in the past from the Petplan Charitable Trust, and are currently forming new funding relationships with a number of other charitable organisations and the pharmaceutical industry.
