Searching the literature
A key part of evidence-based veterinary medicine (EVM) is to carry out thorough searches for all the relevant evidence.
It cannot be assumed that the databases used in medicine, e.g. PubMed and Embase, will give comprehensive coverage of the veterinary literature. One of our first steps was therefore to determine which databases should be used when searching for evidence relevant to veterinary practice.
We have also begun to develop comprehensive search strategies suitable for some veterinary topics which have been applied to systematic reviews and BestBETs for Vets.
