Encounters: Writers and Translators in conversation

Reading, performance & discussion of Grimm's fairy tales in German and English. All welcome. No knowledge of German (or fairy tales) needed.

Hosting German writer Ulrike Almut Sandig and her translator Karen Leeder reading from and talking in English about translating and adapting Grimm’s fairy tales into different languages, times and cultural contexts. The Encounter will start with some thoughts by Rachel Palfreyman on how fairy tales have been interpreted: ‘The uses of fairy tales: enchanting ideologies and radical transformations’. The event will be chaired by Heike Bartel.
