Please join us for a guest lecture about the idea of the Great American Novel and its recognisable characters - perhaps as many different Americans as possible, or perhaps representative types: typical people who live some place typical with professions, lifestyles, thoughts and feelings that represent the ‘national character.’ Dr. Boddy will explore a wide range of writers who have an eye for national types, showing that if the manners, morals, race and gender of the national character has changed over the past 100 years, a belief in its existence persists.
