The US Embassy comes to Nottingham

On Friday 13 March, Larilyn Reffet, Consul at the US Embassy in London, visited the Department of American and Canadian Studies to meet with staff and students. A senior Foreign Service officer in the US Department of State, over the past decade Larilyn has completed tours of duty in Iraq, Afghanistan, Paris, and London. Larilyn delivered a fascinating talk to the ACS undergraduate and postgraduate community on the life and work of a Foreign Service officer in the field. Following her lecture, Larilyn took time to meet with students and answer a range of penetrating questions on contemporary US politics. Moving forward, it is planned that Larilyn's visit will mark the beginning of a wider programme of joint outreach activities between ACS and the US Embassy in the fields of American diplomacy and foreign policy.
