Current Projects
Furniture Re-Use Project
Through this project the University's Estates Office can supply not-for-profit groups with used office furniture which is no longer required but still in good condition and serviceable.
The two main aims behind this project are to reduce the amount the University sends to landfill and to donate to community and not-for-profit organisations which invariably operate on very tight budgets. The types of items usually on offer are desks, filing cabinets and various types of chairs.
The University’s Environmental Strategy underpins the ethos of this project and as well as helping our partner organisations the wider-reaching benefits of recycling in this way are to our environment.
If you are a community organisation, charity or not-for-profit group and you are in need of items of office furniture please get in touch with Dave Skinner to discuss your requirements or call Dave on 0115 8468108. Unfortunately we are not able to supply computer equipment.
Meeting Rooms for Community use
Subject to availability and the following criteria, the University offers free of charge a meeting room to local voluntary and community sector organisations and groups.
A first-floor room in the Hemsley building on University Park will be available up to a maximum once per calendar month per group and will be booked on a first-come first-served basis. We can only take a limited number of bookings per month but requests can be taken up to six months in advance. The room is free of charge to groups who qualify and the criteria for this and full information about booking can be found in our policy and procedures.
Bookings can currently be taken for evening meetings on Mondays to Thursdays and according to the conditions laid out in the policy. Unfortunately the club is closed in the evenings during August. Bookings cannot usually be taken during the day as the rooms are in use for University business. If your meeting can only be held in the day we may give your request consideration based on the situation at the time.
