Chinese Cultural Workshop for Advanced Learners

This module is designed for students who have completed beginner's level and intermediate level Mandarin courses or students with equivalent language skills. Excellent command of speaking/listening skills is a prerequisite to starting the course. Students who aim to pursue a career in Chinese Studies are especially welcome. Teaching materials will be distributed in classes.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

• develop a better understanding of Chinese history and culture
• talk about major Chinese issues such as open and reform policy
• grasp the key concepts in Contemporary Chinese studies such as state-society relations
• read Chinese newspapers and journals
• write short essays on China
