UoN athletes prepare for Tri Campus Games

Tri Campus Games Ultimate 714x249

Our UK sports teams will make their way out to Ningbo campus tomorrow morning to compete in the ninth annual Tri Campus Games.

The games are a unique event in the University sector, and teams from each of our international campuses come together to battle it out in eight different sports; badminton, basketball, football, squash, table tennis, tennis, Ultimate and volleyball.

The programme of the event includes an opening and closing ceremony, several days of fixtures, and cultural visits to Ningbo and the surrounding areas. Whilst fixtures are fiercely competitive, the theme of the Tri Campus Games is ‘Friendship through Sport’, with the athlete oath a key highlight of the opening ceremony.

Lauren West, a third year Sports Rehabilitation student, is travelling to China as a member of the support team for all 120 athletes: “As part of my course, one of my placements is at the new Sports Injury Clinic at the David Ross Sports Village and before Easter I was asked if I would like to be part of the physiotherapy and sports rehab team in Ningbo. As this is an unbelievable opportunity to gain international experience, I was very quick to say yes!”

“This is a new experience for me and it’s been really important to be as prepared as possible. As well as attending all the team briefings, I’ve researched into travelling with large teams, the cultural differences I should be aware of and how to best support athletes observing Ramadan.”

The 2017 Tri Campus Games kicks off on Sunday 11 June, with matches starting the following day.

The full list of fixtures can be found on the University website. Follow UoN Sport on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for live updates during the event.
