The University of Nottingham's Department of Sport has received further recognition including winning a prestigious national Higher Education award for their student sporting offer and raking a record medal Haul at European University championships.

Announced at last week’s College & University Business Officer (CUBO) awards in Kent, the University of Nottingham were named the 2017 ‘Excellence in Student Sporting Experience’ winner.

Hosted at the University of Kent in front of hundreds of guests from UK universities, Nottingham’s world-class facilities, variety of offer and inclusive projects aimed at students with a disability or long-term medical condition were recognised as the awards were announced by CUBO chair Emma Furnival.

Additionally, the University of Nottingham’s Badminton and Table Tennis performance squads have won a record number of medals at their respective European University championships, topping an outstanding year for both programmes. Competing in the European University Sports Association (EUSA) badminton event in Slovenia and EUSA Table Tennis championships in the Czech Republic, the University of Nottingham won three bronze and three silver medals in total.

These achievements top off a whirlwind year for University of Nottingham Sport with the new £40 million David Ross Sports Village opening in October last year and a record medal haul at the 2017 British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) championships.

The annual CUBO awards recognise the achievements of those working within the Higher Education industry. For the full list of 2017 winners, please click here. For more information about performance sport at the University of Nottingham visit the UoN Sport Performance webpage.
