Access to library resources

Thursday, 14 January 2021
Whether you’re currently based on campus or elsewhere, Libraries can help you to find and access key resources for your studies and research.

Your one-stop shop

The University’s library discovery tool NUsearch is your one-stop shop for searching our print and online collections, placing book requests and managing your library account.

When using NUsearch, you are searching our entire collection including over one million print books, 300,000 ebooks, 50,000 ejournals, newspapers, video and more.

After searching NUsearch for your keywords, you can refine your search by using a wide range of filters including displaying only resources that are available online. For physical items, you can use the Virtual Bookshelf feature to browse nearby items.

Find out how to get the most from NUsearch in our online sessions – Ask Libraries and Getting started with using library resources. You can work through an online version of the training.

Find your reading list

Find links to core, recommended and further reading for each of your modules through your reading list on Moodle or the reading list platform, Talis Aspire.

  • Quick and easy access to resources recommended by your lecturers including books, journals, scanned extracts, videos and websites.
  • Check the availability of books in our libraries
  • Directly access ebooks, journal articles and websites
  • Keep track of your progress and plan your reading by adding personal notes and marking items as read or unread.

Accessing print resources

If you are on campus and need access to essential print resources, you can use Click and Collect to request items for collection from the library of your choice.

If you are based elsewhere and need access to a book on our shelves, we recommend:

Easy access to online resources

Install the Library Access browser extension to your laptop or PC browser for easy and direct access to online resources such as journals, databases, ebooks and other websites.

The extension will display a notification when you visit a website or resource that the University subscribes to. Simply follow the link to get access to the resource without having to visit NUsearch first.

If the material you’d like to use doesn’t seem to be available, Library Access will automatically check for an open access version.

Help with finding resources

If you are struggling to find or access the resources you need, Library staff are here to help with answering your questions by email, phone, live chat or in our online sessions.
