Rules around Covid-19 self-isolation have changed with effect from today (Monday 16 August) for those who are fully vaccinated.

From this date you will not need to self-isolate following close contact with someone who has Covid-19. You will still need to take a PCR test and self-isolate if the result is positive. You can book a test on the Government website.

If you are not fully vaccinated and are identified as a close contact of a positive case, you will still need to isolate. More details on support during your isolation can be found on our webpages.

We strongly encourage all students who are on campus regularly to take asymptomatic Covid-19 tests at least once a week even if they have been vaccinated. This can be done through the Asymptomatic Testing Service.

Dr Paddy Tighe, part of the Asymptomatic Testing Service, said: "Even when you’ve had the vaccine there is still a chance you could catch Covid-19, although your symptoms are likely to be greatly reduced, and pass it on.

It does not mean you are instantly protected and it does not mean you cannot be infected any further so please take the relevant safety precautions and this includes taking regular tests.”

Those who experience Covid-19 symptoms should isolate immediately, notify the university and book an NHS confirmatory swab test.
