Throughout October, University of Nottingham Libraries asked students and staff to share their Black History Month recommended reads through suggestion boxes in libraries, the Library website and Twitter.
Libraries received 76 suggestions including classics, contemporary fiction, memoirs, essays and academic texts. The most suggested titles were Half of a Yellow Sun, Things Fall Apart, Why I’m No Longer Talking to White People About Race and Queenie.
Your suggestions have helped Libraries to:
- build a Black History Month reading list
- create a display of recommended titles in Hallward Library
- expand our collection of titles that explore BME culture and history - look out for copies of suggested titles appearing in libraries soon
Check out the Black History Month reading list to browse the suggested titles in our collections and reasons for recommendations. Click on the title name to see its location in libraries. The reading list will be updated when any newly acquired titles are available for borrowing.
