Sport

  • We've created a student opportunities fund together with the Students' Union, to help cover the cost of memberships and taking part in activities. We’ve supported 200 students so far through this fund!
  • We've teamed up with official kit partner Player Layer to help you purchase club playing kit. We’ve supported 45 students through this fund so far
  • We've supported inclusive fitness sessions, continued our 50% discount for Disability Sport membership, and introduced low sensory gym time and classes
  • We've established the Black Sport Collective, to bring together and support Black students interested in sport and fitness at all levels, aiming to inspire and motivate you to excel
  • We've introduced a new tour and induction process during Welcome Week, plus more Fitness Fridays, personal training, gym floor challenges, supported 1-1s and the University Archon Fitness League, to help you feel motivated to get active
  • We've grown our streaming capabilities to enhance visibility and development of our sport clubs, and launched uonsport.tv, to help our sports clubs reach new audiences

Libraries

  • We’ve added docking stations to library PCs in George Green and Greenfield Medical libraries, so it's even easier to charge your laptops and connect them to the monitors for focused work
  • We upgraded the online library study space booking system, Click and Study  to improve accessibility and make it easier to find a study space
  • We extended the 24-hour opening dates for 2024/25 at James Cameron-Gifford Library  to provide more space during exams and assessment periods
  • A student kitchen has been installed opposite Business Library in Business School South

Academic representation

  • You asked for more academic representation, so Students' Union has initiated a Democracy Review for you to share what you want your representation system to look like

Estates

  • Additional power sockets are now available in our learning spaces on Jubilee campus, so you can plug in and charge your devices
  • We’ve invested in new and improved student common areas, for study and socialising, as well as additional private computer spaces
  • We've upgraded lighting around campus, including around Jubilee Sports Centre, on the path across The Downs on University Park campus, around the car park adjacent to Lincoln Hall and at Melton Lane on Sutton Bonington campus

Catering

  • We’ve added flexibility to food options, including ordering in advance with MealPass, reintroduced a salad and deli bar at George Green Library, plus have a wider range of drink options at George Green Library
  • We now offer a range of sustainable toiletries, soaps and hygiene products for sale in Bonington's Farm Shop and serve locally roasted UoN coffee blend ‘Roastology’ in Bonington's Cafe

Welcome

  • We've added additional events, including information sessions for international students. The timetable of events has also been extended beyond Welcome to continue support into the first few weeks of term
  • The website has been redesigned to make information clearer along with links to information for international students. Pre-arrival information has also been updated and improved.
  • Blackwell's bookshop in the Exchange Building at Jubilee campus is due to be converted into a common room for international students, due to open July 2025, with plans for the same at University Park
  • We’ve added more tours of Nottingham city centre and the local area, to help you get to know the area.

Student wellbeing

  • We’ve introduced drop-in sessions for you to access advice before making a report through Report+Support

Student and Campus Life

  • We’ve streamlined the process to change your name in our systems, to make the process quicker and easier for you
  • We’ve updated our rainbow installations to more inclusive progress flag

Student Living

  • We’ve added more self-catered accommodation and more affordable accommodation options on Jubilee and University Park campuses
  • We’ve added air fryers and rice cookers at the new self-catered accommodation on Jubilee and University Park campuses
  • ResX provide a single point of contact to support Care Leavers or those who are estranged to transition into university life, plus activities such as wellbeing walks and bowling
  • We've added more activities in halls, including Wednesday tea with the team as an opportunity to provide feedback, to help you make friends and meet people
  • You said you felt overwhelmed arriving at university and settling in to your room, so we have added new timed arrival slots for halls, to ensure you have quality time with support service staff from accommodation and ResX
  • The ResX team has created a 'Really useful guide' with details of your hall support staff, how to contact them and timings for welcome meeting and other community building activities, to help you settle into life in student accommodation
  • ResX moved from evening events to Wednesday afternoons and weekend daytime events to offer a wider time offering
  • We’ve introduced the 'Live like a Local' programme to help you learn to navigate local transport, and highlights events and facilities in town that you may not access otherwise. These have included Nottingham Castle, National Justice Museum, Wollaton Hall and more, all offered at just the cost of transport.
  • We work closely with the Nottinghamshire County Council HMO licensing team to escalate complaints and hold landlords to account
  • We introduced a community swap shop, where students and residents can donate any unwanted household items and swap them for something new - helping students save month and reducing the number of items heading to landfill

Student Safety

  • We secured a police grant to install SOS points on Ilkeston Road and Midland Way, to enhance student safety
  • We've invested £65,000 per academic year to fund police overtime in Lenton, to enhance student safety
  • We've worked with the University Policing Team with an Education, Not Enforcement approach, aiming to build trust with the student community
  • Our summer safety campaigns aims to support you to keep yourself and your property safe over the summer months

Support for international students

  • We've developed extensive guidance on visa applications, now available on Moodle, and have introduced open door drop-in sessions for students to get one-to-one support
  • We've set a standard of two working days to respond to visa and immigration queries

Student Services

  • We've improved our Student Services webpages to make them easier to navigate and find the information you need quicker
  • We've reduced the amount of evidence needed to apply for financial support, and simplified the process.
  • We've set a standard to respond to 90% of enquiries  through the Student Enquiry Centre within two working days, so you get the answers you need quicker
  • Our livechat service, as part of the Student Enquiry Service, is responded to by a person, not a bot, so you can get quick and relevant answers to enquiries
  • We've arranged graduation gowning events in advance of ceremonies, so you can try on your gown in advance, plus added hood photos and explanations to our website

Careers and Employability

  • We launched CareerSet, an online, AI driven CV and cover letter checking tool, aiming to help ensure your CV gets through employer AI application checking filters
  • We've streamlined our Careers drop-in sessions across our faculties, and introduced six weekly drop-in sessions at four key locations across campus, so you can easily find sessions with careers advisers
  • Our MyCareer platform promotes volunteering opportunities, and we've run Volunteering Fairs in 2024 and spring 2025, so you can find out more about volunteering opportunities
  • We've added more right to work checks with the JobZone team, to get you through the checks quicker

Postgraduate Taught (PGT) students

  • The Graduation team are working to arrange inter-ceremonies so that postgraduate students can have their degrees conferred outside of the major graduation ceremonies in July and December. This will allow more flexibility for those needing proof of their course to secure a job.
  • We've updated the Quality Manual with regulation and guidance to support a minimum expectated level of supervision for students completing a research project, otherwise known as a Masters Project, during the summer.
