We are adjusting our term dates for the 2021/22 academic year to enhance the induction and social activities we offer as part of Welcome and to create flexibility in the timetable to support our social distancing measures.
We believe that these changes are essential in helping us better prepare you for a return to campus.
The changes will allow for some flexibility in the timetable, should schools/departments require it, an enhanced Welcome offering, and will bring a greater focus to the later part of the academic year, which we hope will provide more opportunities for in-person teaching and learning.
The new 2021/22 academic year dates will be as follows:
Terms
Autumn Term: Monday 20 September (with teaching commencing on Monday 4 October) - Friday 17 December 2021
Spring Term: Monday 10 January 2022 - Friday 8 April 2022
Summer Term: Monday 2 May 2022 - Friday 17 June 2022
Semesters
Semester 1: Monday 4 October 2021 - Friday 28 January 2022
Semester 2: Monday 31 January 2022 - Friday 17 June 2022
Based on feedback and reflection on the 2020/21 timetable we have decided to start teaching in the Autumn term on Monday 4 October so that we can use the previous two weeks to give you a longer and improved Welcome period.
This will give all students time to familiarise themselves with health and safety or testing requirements on campus as well as to enjoy the wide range of social activities being planned. These changes will not affect the amount of teaching that you will get on your course.
Students in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and the School of Education may have non-standard start dates because of the requirements of their programmes. Your schools will be in touch if this affects you.
