The university won 5 of the 6 awards that our athletes and staff were nominated for.
University of Nottingham was shortlisted for 6 awards at the 2023 BUCS Awards Dinner, hosted on Thursday 13 July at the University of Leeds.
The event celebrated the achievements of a variety of people including student athletes, both individual and teams, who have excelled in their respective sporting endeavours, as well as volunteers and administrators who have gone above and beyond to progress the sports provision.
Our winners are:
- Team of the Year – University of Nottingham Women’s Table Tennis 1st Team
- Sportsperson of the Year – Former sport scholar and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Gina Kennedy
- Special Recognition Award – Graduating student and outgoing Men’s Hockey president Fergus Stevens, recognised for his efforts across multiple causes including Movember
- Unsung Hero Award – Our BUCS and International Competitions Coordinator Lynn Turton – an integral part of the University of Nottingham Sport team for 17 years and who’s award has been applauded by many students past and present
- Digital Engagement Award – Our effort to turn our main UoN Sport social media channel (Instagram) black and white in support of Movember and amplifying the many incredible pieces of work by our students such as Fergus, as well as our SU Sports Officer – Sean Nolan
