A grace period of up to one week beyond current assessment deadlines is available to students across the University, to help students who have been impacted by Covid-19 in semester one.
This applies to all deadlines that fall up until the last day of term – Friday 18 December 2020.
Schools have communicated the grace period, and how it will impact assessments on their programmes, to their students over recent weeks. For more information on how this affects you, contact your school direct.
This grace period supports students where their physical or mental health has been affected by the pandemic – through a positive test and illness, being required to isolate, economic impacts, or the broader impact of moving households, studying and adapting to changes in restrictions in Nottinghamshire.
Assessment deadlines have not changed. Where possible, students should work to these original deadlines. Changing deadlines will impact assessments and workload in the year ahead, and managing this should be considered before deciding to make use of the grace period.
Over the summer break, Faculties took extensive steps to redesign teaching and assessments for the academic year. These changes have ensured that students can access teaching in a blended way - in person where appropriate, and via digital channels. This enables students to meet their learning outcomes while remaining Covid-secure. All teaching delivery methods – including lectures, tutorials, seminars, laboratories, workshops and clinical sessions – have been adapted.
Support services have also been adapted to ensure students can access them safely and enhance their student experience. Safe study spaces and library services are available across all campuses, and the Student Academic Skills Team have developed training and guidance on effective and safe group study.
The ongoing pandemic and government restrictions remain challenging. However, we are confident that the changes we have made to the curriculum, teaching delivery, support services and assessments give students the opportunity to meet the learning outcomes required by their programme of study. We recognise that for some students, Covid-19 has had a significant impact upon their wellbeing and their studies. The Covid-19 Extenuating Circumstances policy remains in place to support students.
