If you were living in private accommodation on 1 April 2022 you may be eligible for a payment of £150 to help with rising energy bills.
The UK government is offering a one-off payment of £150 to people who pay council tax on properties in council tax bands A-D. Properties designated a ‘class N’ exemption from council tax due to being solely occupied by students are also eligible for the rebate.
If you were a student living in private accommodation (as opposed to university accommodation) in the following areas on 1 April 2022 then you are eligible for this rebate if:
- The property was your sole or main residence at the time
- The property was rated for council tax in bands A-D
- The rebate has not already been claimed by another household member
Please note that the payment is per household and not per person. Households will need to nominate a claimant to make the claim on behalf of the household and share the payment with the other residents.
In order to make a claim you will need to provide details of the bank account that you want your payment to be made to, as well as your Student ID number for identification purposes.
