As we approach the end of term, all students who are travelling should take an Asymptomatic Covid-19 test in order to protect family and loved ones.
Please book a test in advance to ensure you can travel on your chosen date.
The university’s Asymptomatic Testing Service will be closed over the Easter Weekend (Friday 2 – Tuesday 6 April). The last day to submit your sample will be on Wednesday 31 March.
Students travelling to and from university are advised to avoid travelling at the busiest times and routes. You must follow the coronavirus (Covid-19) safer travel guidance for passengers. This includes advice for using private or public transport and the measures you should undertake to keep everyone around you safe. Anyone who tests positive will be legally required to self-isolate for ten days and should not travel.
The government has updated its advice for international students, for whom travel is permitted during the Easter break. However, students should be mindful of the risks of travel advice changing, the costs of necessary documentation and testing for returning to the UK and the quarantine requirements.
The university’s Asymptomatic Test is not accredited for use as part of the government’s Test to Release scheme or as part of the legally-required documentation to enable travel.
Returning to campus
Everyone who returns to campus should book their weekly asymptomatic tests to prevent spreading the virus among fellow students. Jonathan Ball, Professor of Molecular Virology, said “If you test negative (previously) all that means is at the time when you provided your sample, we couldn’t detect the virus, but that doesn’t mean that you’re not infected”.
He explains more in the following video.
Thank you to everyone who has also taken part in the testing programme so far. The more frequently you test, the more rewards you can access, including charitable donations and entries into a draw to win £500 cash or an iPad.
