Global Buddies volunteering opportunity - deadline extended

Tuesday, 25 June 2024
Help incoming international students settle into life in Nottingham.

Global Buddies is a peer-to-peer support scheme for new international students, matching them with students in the UK to help them settle-in and make friends.

If you’re a friendly, reliable and enthusiastic student, become a Global Buddy and support a small group of international students through their first term in the UK. You'll be a friendly face, pointing students in the right direction to feel prepared and make the most of their student experience.

As a volunteer mentor, you will use your knowledge and experience of the university, campus and city to help our new students successfully settle into university life.

How are Mentors and mentees matched?

Mentees will answer a series of questions to help us to match them with a suitable mentor. Where possible, we aim to match new students studying similar subjects, however they may  be matched based on a protected characteristic such as LGBTQ+ identity, faith or cultural background, care leaver or mature student status.

What to expect from the role

You will support mentees with a broad range of questions and queries, including what to bring to university, information on support services, local amenities, campus tours and more.

You will receive your mentee allocation before Welcome Week and can expect to be matched with 1-4 mentees. Mentors are then asked to introduce themselves to mentees by email in early September and support each mentee for 1 hour each week.

We’ll make sure you receive training and ongoing support, so if you’re willing to help submit an application by the deadline on Wednesday 31 July.
