As part of an ongoing security project, our Digital and Technology Services teams have been working to improve our digital security.
As a result of this project we have introduced a report phishing button in Outlook, updated the university password policy and enabled the use of multi-factor authentication (MFA) across certain virtual services.
We are now asking all users to enable and start using MFA to approve access to Microsoft 365 services. We encourage you to adopt this extra level security early, before it becomes compulsory for everyone.
Sign up to MFA early by following these steps:
- Set up MFA if you haven’t already, follow this link for instructions
- Visit the Securing 365 SharePoint site as it has some FAQs you might want to read
- Once you’ve set up MFA and, at a convenient time, submit the sign up form to enable MFA for Microsoft 365
After you sign up to use MFA with Microsoft services, you will need to approve authentication a few times for each app and device that you use. If you use an email app that is not Outlook, you may need to remove your university account and re-add it to approve the authentication.
Multi-factor authentication is a vital step not only in helping to protect the university network, but in safeguarding your own data and identity.
"This is increasingly pertinent as we move into an ever more digital world. We encourage everyone to set up and familiarise themselves with multi-factor authentication now to avoid being caught out when it becomes mandatory this summer." - Michael Skinner, Chief Information Security Officer
More information on how to use MFA, what changes/issues you may encounter along the way and why this is an important process can be found on our FAQ’s page, along with further guidance to get you signed up to MFA.
