Network disruption as we improve wifi connectivity

Tuesday, 18 March 2025

As we work to create faster, more reliable wifi connections, there may be some wifi outtages in buildings around campus.

We're making improvements to our wifi networks, to keep up with the demands of modern learning, research and student life.

Our Next Generation Network (NGN) project will give you faster speeds, better Wi-Fi coverage and stronger security to support your studies.

There may be some short-term disruptions while we replace outdated infrastructure, to give you a more reliable and high-performing connection, including:

  • Better wifi coverage
  • Faster internet speeds
  • Smoother and more reliable Teams calls
  • Stronger security and upgraded firewalls
  • Potential to grow our smart campus capability.

Find out more about the improvements being made in the Simple Guide to Future-Proof Connectivity.

Will this cause any disruption?

There will be some temporary disruptions as we carry out upgrades to our wiring centres. Outages may range from 3.5 hours up to three days.

Services that rely on the network, including internet access and connected devices, will be temporarily unavailable during these time.

Check the schedule for details of when and where these will take place.

The project team will do our best to keep disruption to a minimum, but some interruptions are unavoidable.

If you need network access during a switch migration, consider using another building where services are unaffected.

Thanks for your patience while we make these improvements.
