We need feedback on your experience and expectations of online exams during the pandemic. This will help us plan future assessment periods.
In May/June 2020, the closure of campus forced us to move all our exams online. The majority of these assessments were set as five-day or 48-hour ‘open-book’ or ‘take-home’ exams . For the resit period over summer all assessments remained online, with some options introduced for shorter timed exams of 24 hours.
Many Schools and Departments set online exams in the second half of January 2021 in the weeks leading up to the start of Semester 2. During 2020/21 shorter online exams of one, two or three hours are being used in some areas.
Because we do not yet know if we will be able to reinstate on-campus exams for the summer exam period, all remaining exams during 2020/21 will take place online where they can be completed remotely. Some assessments need to take place in-person under invigilated conditions, due to professional accreditation requirements or other practical needs. Where this is required, we will ensure that exams are conducted safely and securely.
We welcome your feedback about online exams. There are a number of questions within the Student Experience and Learning During 2020-21 Survey about your expectations and your experience of assessments and online exams during the pandemic. Please share your thoughts, concerns and experiences with us, to help us improve future assessment periods.
