Our voluntary interruption of study request process has been updated

Tuesday, 01 April 2025
Students may, for a variety of reasons, want to interrupt their studies. Voluntary interruption of study is one of the ways the university can support you through personal difficulty and can also be used in other time-limited circumstances. We’ve made some changes that you should be aware of.

We’ve recently made some changes to how undergraduate and postgraduate taught students can request voluntary interruption of study. It’s important that you familiarise yourself with the policy but you can find out more about what’s been changed below.

If you’re a postgraduate researcher, the process will currently remain the same and you can find out more information on our Student Services webpage.

What's changing

Instead of the original paper or Word document, you will now complete an online form on the NottinghamHub to request a voluntary interruption of study. The form will link automatically to your student record, so you no longer need to complete numerous fields about your studies, which aims to make the process easier and simpler for you to complete.

Once you have submitted the form, you’ll receive an email letting you know what happens next.

Thinking about an interruption of study?

There’s a huge amount of information about interruption of study and potential impacts on our Student Services webpage.

You should also talk this through with someone in your school such as your personal tutor or academic guide to ensure that you are making the right choice.
