Donate unwanted items to the British Heart Foundation with Pack for Good

Thursday, 31 March 2022
Heading home for the Easter break? It's the perfect time to have a clear out!

Since 2012 the University of Nottingham has joined forces with Nottingham Trent University and Nottingham City Council to support the British Heart Foundation's (BHF) Pack for Good campaign.

The campaign gives you the opportunity to donate unwanted items such as clothes, electricals, books and furniture to BHF collection banks on campus and in the local community.

The donated items — which would otherwise likely have ended up in landfill — are taken to BHF charity shops, where they are sold on to make money. The money raised supports the lifesaving research and work of the BHF.

On-campus donations

The university has teamed up with the British Heart Foundation (BHF) to provide donation points in each hall of residence on campus. There will also be large street banks outside Ancaster, Sherwood and Melton hall for larger donations.

There is a donation bank at Sutton Bonington Campus by the James Cameron-Gifford library.

Off-campus donations

Donation banks have been placed in the local area. See the below map for more information on donation points.

Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, 2021 saw 2,819 bags collected with a combined total of more than 22,000 tonnes of waste. This resulted in £39,466 raised for the charity and the saving of 229,462kg of CO2 emissions.

Since first becoming involved in the initiative, goods donated by Nottingham students have raised a staggering £1,257,193 for the charity and have saved the equivalent weight of 119 African elephants in waste being sent to landfill.
