Thursday, 14 October 2021
From Monday 18 October, our six largest libraries will stay open until 2am (Sunday to Thursday) to support you with your reading and assessments.
Extended opening times will be in place throughout term time and will end for the autumn term on Thursday 16 December.
You will need your university card for access to the libraries during our extended opening hours (10pm – 2am). If you don’t have your university card yet, please visit the Libraries website for guidance.
Your time in the library
Study spaces can be booked via Click and Study until 8.45pm. After this time, all library spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis, including group spaces for collaborative working.
If you have questions about finding resources or using facilities, our helpful Library staff (wearing blue lanyards) will be available at enquiry desks until 9.45pm Monday – Thursday and 4.45pm on a Sunday.
After this time, our library spaces will be monitored by Octavian Security who will carry out regular welfare walk rounds. You can get in touch with them by texting or calling the Text Noise mobile number displayed on posters throughout each library.
Help us to provide a safe study environment by following the university’s Safety on Campus guidance including wearing a face covering in busy and crowded spaces - such as entering, leaving and moving around our libraries.
Look after your wellbeing
It’s important to look after your health and wellbeing whilst studying, including taking regular breaks, eating healthy food and getting plenty of sleep.
Whilst libraries are staying open until 2am, we recommend starting your studies as early as possible, setting yourself an achievable target (such as a set number of chapters or words) and heading home to get some rest once complete. It is important for health and safety reasons that you do not sleep in our libraries.
For more information about studying effectively and safely, visit the Libraries website. The Current Students website also features useful information on looking after your wellbeing and personal safety.
If you have any questions about library opening times or other services, please ask any member of staff or get in touch.
