Stay safe this Bonfire Night

Wednesday, 30 October 2024
Enjoy fireworks safely.

To safely make the most of Bonfire Night, it is advisable to celebrate at an organised event. Fireworks can be extremely dangerous if not managed and handled properly and can lead to injuring yourself and others.

If hosting a private event, please celebrate in a safe and responsible manner. The misuse of fireworks has a negative impact on the wider community, not only do loud noises disturb vulnerable community members but firework misuse incidents can cost the emergency services lifesaving minutes attending other emergencies.

Remember, it is illegal to light or throw fireworks in a public place and you may be subject to a criminal investigation as a result. You may also be held to the university Code of Conduct which includes disciplinary routes.

If you have any concerns about the use of fireworks, you can use the following reporting routes:

  • In an emergency call 999
  • If you witness suspicious activity, please call 101
  • If you are concerned and want support from the university, please report it via Report + Support
