Sustainability week continues we enjoy 2020’s sustainability week it’s worth remembering that Sustainability is something necessary in all our actions
Here at UoN we are always trying to support new Sustainability initiatives and tackling Food Waste is a big part of this. So we thought we would highlight some projects from Enactus Nottingham that focus on food waste and reducing its impact.
Foodprint Snenton
Foodprint was established in 2017 and is a project focused on reducing food waste by intercepting good quality products that would have been put to waste and selling them on for as cheap a price as sustainably possible.
As well as running a shop, Foodprint recently announced the establishment of a delivery service. Funded by the National Lottery and Cascade funding through Friends of Nottingham and Nottingham Alumni groups, the #foodprintonwheels service aims to broaden Foodprint’s reach and impact.
Foodprint is based in Snenton and the team publish their opening hours weekly on their social media pages. For more information follow them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Additionally Foodprint are always looking for volunteers to help their service function, if you want to get involved head over to this page.
Bread Brew’d
Bread Brew’d is a project that aims to tackle both food waste and child poverty. To do this the team behind the project: Andrei Smirnov, Hamish Barguss-Smith and James Cox have created a beer made of otherwise wasted loaves donated from supermarkets, bakeries and local businesses.
Since the project began in September the team have: Brewed a total of 7000 litres of beer, Up cycled 320kg of bread, saving the equivalent of 1350kg of CO2 emissions from being released into the atmosphere and Impacted 401 children in school breakfast clubs over the last two months through donating profits to a local organization in Nottingham.
Their two beers are available throughout a number of pubs and shops across Nottingham and the Midlands and you can find your closest outlet through this handy map or at a number of outlets on University Park. Remember to keep tabs on the project through their social channels Facebook and Twitter.
