Tree planting - get involved

Thursday, 16 January 2025
Help plant wildlife-friendly trees and hedgerows at UoN’s Riverside Sports Complex.

UoN Sport, the university Grounds Team and the Sustainability Team have partnered up to plant species-rich hedgerows at Riverside Sports Complex. Planting started in December 2022 as an initiative to offset the carbon emissions generated by sports teams travelling to the university for BUCS Big Wednesday. It has since evolved into the creation of wild spaces and 'green corridors' along the River Trent for the benefit of local nature and to help tackle the climate and biodiversity emergencies. These further enhancements are being funded by Severn Trent Water’s Boost for Biodiversity fund.

So far over 1,600 trees have been planted, but we need your help! For National Tree Week we aim to plant a further 2,800 trees. Everyone is welcome to come along and learn how to plant trees and whips, meet new people, and connect with nature. You can join as an individual, or as a society, sports team, or community group.
