Your accessibility tools and resources

Thursday, 12 September 2024
Make sure you familiarise yourself with all the tools at your disposal to help you reach your full potential.

We’re committed to making your university experience as accessible as possible. There are lots of resources in place to enable you to engage with your university journey in a way that suits your own individual needs, making it easier for you to get the most out of your studies.

Explore the resources below and, if you think you require more tailored support, get in touch our Disability Support Services as soon as possible.

Support for your studies

Our new accessibility page from Libraries is full of advice on making your studies more accessible.

It contains tips on customising your browsers and devices to suit your preferences, alongside instructions for obtaining course materials in different formats. You can even find a list of tools to aid with reading, writing and note-taking. It also signposts to various support services, online tools and study skills resources.

If you have a Disability Support Plan, you are eligible for enhanced library support, which provides access to dedicated study spaces, extended loan periods for high-demand items, and more.

Module-specific accessibility information

This year we’ve introduced the Moodle Accessibility Information Tool. It’s integrated into every module on Moodle and allows staff to make you aware of any accessibility challenges that you may encounter in your modules.

This might include certain file types, such as PDFs, or complex imagery like maps, diagrams or medical cross-sectional imagery. This allows you to plan early and request additional support where you might need it.

You can find this for each module by clicking on ‘Accessibility information’ on the module homepage.

Getting around campus

Our AccessAble app is full of accessibility information about different buildings on campus so you can plan your route before setting off. It details step-free access, parking, and accessible toilets, as well as signposting to prayer rooms, gender-neutral toilets, and quiet spaces.

The AccessAble app is available for both Apple and Android.
