Are you doing everything you can to support your wellbeing?
University life can be both exciting and challenging, and we want to make sure that you have the support you need to thrive and enjoy your time at the University of Nottingham.
You may encounter various challenges during your time as a student and we want to remind you that support services are available to offer advice and guidance. You’ll find more details about these below.
For many, looking after their wellbeing is something they only start to consider when things aren’t going well, but the best time to put preventative measures in place is when you have the energy and mental capacity to think about them. These might include important things like establishing a university routine that works for you, making sure you get enough sleep, and eating a balanced diet.
Many people find that regular exercise, relaxation techniques and managing social media and screentime can also help, alongside connecting with others and making time for activities you enjoy.
Try to establish realistic and achievable goals for your academic and personal life. Celebrate small victories, and don't be too hard on yourself if things don't go as planned.
Remember, taking care of your mental health is an ongoing process. We offer a range of support services if you are dealing with a situation that you would like further help with.
Your first stop for anything generally related to wellbeing. We provide support for you, if you’re worried about someone else or if you would like guidance or access to support services. You can also view our wellbeing guide and find out about upcoming events we have planned.
If you’re finding your living situation challenging, our ResX team are here to help. Whether you’re feeling homesick, struggling to make friends, or are having a disagreement with another resident, they can offer support. Make sure you keep an eye on their events for social activities taking place in your hall.
Many students will encounter financial concerns at some point. Our financial teams are here to offer you expert support on every aspect of student finance, including general money worries, tuition fees, student loans, university scholarships and bursaries. We also have a range of support and resources to help you manage the impact of the cost of living.
If you’d like advice with your course, housing or finances, and would prefer to speak to somebody independently of the university, the SU Advice centre has plenty of helpful resources, as well as professional Advisers who you can book an appointment with.
Remember – everyone is here to help you succeed. If you’re struggling with anything, please reach out to someone, whether that’s a friend or a university service.
