Undergraduate student prizes

From 2019/20, the School of Economics will award the following prizes to undergraduate students on an annual basis:

For first year students

  • School Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Undergraduate Year One
  • School Prize for Performance in Undergraduate Year One

For second year students

  • School Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Undergraduate Year Two
  • School Prize for Performance in Undergraduate Year Two

For third year students

  • School Prize for Outstanding Achievement
  • School Prize for Performance in Year Three
  • School Prize for Dissertation Performance
  • Sir Clive Granger Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Econometrics

Prizes open to students in all years

  • The Gainsborough Essay Prize

Postgraduate student prizes

The following prizes are awarded to postgraduate taught students on an annual basis:

  • School Prize for Outstanding Achievement in MSc
  • School Prize for Performance in MSc
  • School Prize for Best MSc Dissertation
  • School Prize for MSc Dissertation performance

Postgraduate research prize

The school will award a 'Best in Year' prize to the year one PhD student who achieves the highest marks in their year one examinations.

Faculty Academic Excellence Awards

The Faculty Academic Excellence Awards recognise exceptional achievement in the graduating classes in the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Sir Clive Granger is a former Nottingham Economics PhD Student and staff member who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Economics in 2003.

The school is grateful to Lady Pat Granger for her generous sponsorship of the Sir Clive Granger prize.

Martin Totty is a Nottingham Alumnus (Economics 1978) and Chief Executive of Barbon Insurance Group. The school is indebted to Martin for supporting and sponsoring the Martin Totty prizes for a number of years.
