Description
Language processing in the bilingual brain: Neuroimaging support for the BIA+ model

Dr. Walter van Heuven
School of Psychology
The BIA+ model of bilingual language comprehension has so far been based on and supported by behavioral data (Dijkstra & van Heuven, 2002). To what extent is this model also supported by neuroimaging and electrophysiological data? In this talk I will present the BIA+ model and evaluate its processing and structural assumptions in the light of neuroimaging data. I will argue that the BIA+ model is generally compatible with fMRI and ERP data, and discuss how neuroimaging data can provide information about functional components of the BIA+ model that are hard to obtain from behavioral studies.
