To the Class of 2021
On behalf of the whole School, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on your graduation. You have all done amazingly well under very challenging circumstances, and you should rightly be proud of all you have achieved. I have personally had the pleasure to read some of your work, and I know from our external examiners just how high the overall quality of your work has been.
English as a subject offers some of the most important skills needed to deal with the big challenges in the world today, including critical thinking skills, communication skills and the ability to see things from different perspectives. I hope you will continue to draw on the knowledge and skills you have acquired during your time with us as you start the next chapter of your lives. Graduation is one of the most joyous occasions in the academic calendar and I am sorry that we won’t be able to celebrate together in person on this occasion. However, I hope we will be able to meet again in person in the future to mark the successful completion of your degree.
In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this very special day with your friends, family and staff who have supported you, and I wish you every success for your future endeavours. It has been a privilege to have you with us at the University of Nottingham.
All good wishes,
Svenja
