The School is proud to announce the success of two English students, who have been shortlisted in the Nottingham Advantage Awards. Second year undergraduate student, Rebecca Sealy, has won the prize for Professional Development, sponsored by Coca Cola, whilst Joe Jones, who is also a second year, received a Highly Commended Award for Outstanding Contribution in the Community, which was sponsored by Teach First.
Rebecca completed two modules, Career Skills and Peer Mentoring as part of the Nottingham Advantage Awards, which was also a specific requirement to enter for the Professional Development prize. Both of these modules are run in the School of English. She mentioned that Coca Cola “wanted you to show that you had been committed to enhancing your professional development whilst studying as well” and completing these two modules had helped her stand out.
Joe participated in the Vikings for Schools Scheme and also volunteered as part of the School’s Literacy Support Project, where he worked with Year 6 children and “pushed them from a Level 3 to a Level 4, which was incredibly rewarding.” He completed the Literacy Volunteers module based on the experiences he had already gained and “didn’t expect to find it as rewarding as I did”.
The Awards Ceremony is yet to come and will be taking place on Tuesday 9th June where they will both be awarded their respective prizes.
We would like to congratulate both Rebecca and Joe again for their hard work and wish them every success in their future endeavours.
