‘Without a doubt, I wouldn’t have got a job at HarperCollins without the experience I gained on the placement. You learn a lot and you learn really fast because everything is developing quickly and you have to keep up week to week. You also gain a lot of confidence by communicating with professionals and being in an office environment, and you make a lot of good friends too!’
- Olivia French, BA English and Creative Writing (graduated 2015), who completed a placement with Writing East Midlands
The School of English offers bespoke placement and volunteering opportunities, which allow our students to explore a variety of careers. Our placement providers range from publishers, marketing companies, creative writing organisations, libraries, local archives, and charities to local schools, where students help to inspire young people and improve literacy levels. You can read our student placement profiles at: www.nottingham.ac.uk/english/placement-profiles
What’s more, the number of English graduates securing graduate-level employment or graduate-level further study has increased from 71.1% in 2012/2013 to 81.4% in 2013/2014 (Graduate Employment Market Statistics (GEMS) for the School of English, 2015 ) – proof that an English degree opens a lot of doors for our students!
