The School of English is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Nineteenth- and Twentieth-Century Literature. The successful candidate will be expected to teach, supervise and assess undergraduate and postgraduate students in both live and distance learning formats and to engage in outreach and public engagement activities.
We welcome applicants with expertise in any area of nineteenth- and twentieth-century literature. However, preference may be given to applicants with a teaching and research specialism in mid-Victorian fiction, particularly Dickens. The ability to teach across a range of literary genres, including poetry and drama may also be an advantage. Applicants with interests that extend to creative writing aspects of literature teaching are encouraged to highlight this in their application. Previous experience of teaching in Higher Education contexts is required. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate fully in the successful research culture of the School through personal and collaborative publications, research income generation and the recruitment of postgraduate research students.
Candidates should have a PhD (or equivalent qualification), together with notable research achievements or potential in nineteenth- and twentieth-century English literature.
