Postgraduate Funding Opportunities

There are many funding opportunities for Masters and PhD students in the School of English Studies for 2010 entry.  These include:

Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Funding
The Arts and Humanities Research Council funds HEU tuition fees and a full annual stipend per annum. School closing date for applications: 19 February 2010

Postgraduate Teaching Fellowships for PhD students
The School will be awarding Postgraduate Teaching Fellowships from September 2010. Applications are invited from potential doctoral students who wish to work in any area of English Studies in which we can offer supervision. The Postgraduate Teaching Fellowships cover the cost of postgraduate HEU tuition fees for up to three years, and an annual maintenance grant (£13,577 per annum). The Postgraduate Teaching Fellowships have been designed to provide an alternative way to study and fund a PhD. By offering an integrated programme of research supervision, teacher training, and graduated teaching experience, they aim to provide students with the full range of professional skills needed to pursue an academic career. Prior teaching experience is not necessary. Closing date: 22 March 2010.

Postgraduate Research Scholarships for PhD students and Masters students
In 2010, the School of English Studies will be offering some Postgraduate Research Scholarships. The scholarships are the equivalent of HEU full tuition fee scholarships plus an annual stipend of £5,000. The Postgraduate Research Scholarships have been designed to provide an alternative way to study and fund a PhD. By offering an integrated programme of supervision and involvement in a current research project and/or a Research Centre in the School of English Studies, the awards aim to provide students with a range of professional skills needed to pursue an academic or research career. The successful award holder will be attached to a research project and/or centre in the School of English Studies and will be required to undertake research activities for up to one day per week. Closing date: 22 March 2010.
