PhD Student wins full bursary to attend TS Eliot Summer School

School of English current PhD student Xiaofan Xu has won a highly sought-after bursary to attend the prestigious T.S. Eliot International Summer School, which brings together some of the most distinguished scholars of T.S. Eliot and Modern Literature. The Summer School is hosted by the Institute of English Studies of the University of London, which has a national research promotion and facilitation mission for advanced study and research across the field of English Studies.

Dr Sarah Davison, who is one of Xiaofan's supervisors in the School of English, expressed delight at Xiaofan's success: "Xiaofan is an outstanding student. She was awarded a Chinese Government Scholarship to undertake doctoral study on T.S. Eliot  and the modernist garden at the University of Nottingham. The bursary will give her the opportunity to discuss her own research with leading Eliot scholars and to join them on excursions to visit some of many real-life gardens that feature in Eliot's poetry, including the Rose Garden at Burnt Norton, on which she has recently written a chapter of her thesis."
