Please note the following:
- The fees listed here are the sums that will be charged in 2011-12. With the exception of students referred to in paragraph A3.3 below, students should refer to the relevant fee schedule for the sum they will be charged in other years. Fees for years after 2011-12 will normally be higher than those applying in 2011-12
- A small number of fees are not yet confirmed. These are clearly indicated in the Fee Tables, usually by the symbol 'TBC'
- Students interested in a course at the University of Nottingham Malaysia or the University of Nottingham China should contact the relevant campus directly for details of fees in 2011-12

A ─ Tuition fees
1 ─ Scope of tuition fees
1.1
Tuition fees include registration, tuition, initial examination, graduation and membership of the University Association. For full-time students the fee also includes membership of the Union of Students (there is provision for students to opt out of membership); part-time students may join the Union on application to its Secretary and payment of the appropriate fee

Other fees and sums due to the University include:

For the purpose of these Regulations, reference to fees for a session reflect fees which fall due between 1 August and 31 July of the relevant academic year.
2 ─ Categories of fees
2.1
For fees purposes, students are classified into Home, International or Island. The last of these categories covers students from the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. The definition of these fee statuses is laid down in The Education (Fees and Awards) (England) Regulations 2007 (as amended). The status of an individual student is determined by an appropriate member of staff under delegated responsibility from the Registrar.
2.2
A student classed as Home for fees purposes and who is studying for a qualification equivalent to or lower than one they already possess, may be liable for a higher rate of fee than other Home students. Some courses, and students in receipt of Disabled Students Allowance, are exempt from this provision. The status of an individual student is determined by an appropriate member of staff when delegated responsibility from the Registrar.
3 ─ Fee rates
3.1
Each course is allocated to an appropriate fee band for each relevant fee category. The fees for home and international students for each course are given in the Fee Tables.
3.2
The level of fee for each fee band may change from year to year and students will normally be charged the rate for the fee band for the year in question.
3.3
In the case of international students at the Nottingham UK campus (with the exception of students commencing an MBA programme), students at the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus and students at the University of Nottingham China Campus, the rate will be fixed at the level charged for the first year of the course. (The relevant fee band may change if there is a change of campus or course). In the case of Medicine, where the undergraduate course has a different fee for the latter part of the course, students will be charged the clinical fee applying in the year they commence the clinical part of the course and this will then be fixed for the remainder of the course. In the case of a Foundation Year, students will be charged the fee applying to Year 1 of their course when they enter Year 1 and this will then be fixed for the remainder of their course.
3.4
Students who undertake a programme which commences at one of the University's campuses in Asia and then continues in Nottingham will be liable for the relevant international fee for their period of study in Nottingham. This will be charged at the rate applicable to the year in which they started their course at the campus in Asia.
3.5
Students who commence a programme at one of the University's campuses in Asia and then decide to transfer to Nottingham will be liable for the relevant international fee for their period of study in Nottingham. This will be charged at the rate applicable to the year in which they commence studying in Nottingham.
3.6
Students who undertake a programme at one of the University's campuses in Asia, come to Nottingham for a semester or year abroad and then decide to transfer to Nottingham to continue their course will be liable for the relevant international fee for their period of study in Nottingham. This will be charged at the rate applicable to the year in which they commence studying in Nottingham. If the fee paid to the campus in Asia for the semester or year abroad was less than the relevant international fee at Nottingham they will be required to make up the difference for that year
4 ─ Full-time students
4.1
Full-time students will be charged the relevant fee in each year of the course. See the Exceptional fees table for exceptions to this general regulation.
5 ─ Part-time and part-course students and students undertaking non-award bearing study
5.1
Part-time and part-course students and students undertaking non-award bearing study will normally pay a fee pro-rata to the relevant fee according to the amount of study they are undertaking. This pro-rata fee may be rounded up to the nearest £10.
5.2
Undergraduate students will be charged a proportion of the relevant fee equivalent to the proportion of 120 credits they are undertaking during the year. See the Exceptional fees table for exceptions to this general regulation.
5.3
Postgraduate taught students will be charged a proportion of the relevant fee equivalent to the proportion of 180 credits they are undertaking during the year. In some cases the pro-rata fee is based on a different mechanism and if this applies students will be informed individually.
5.4
Postgraduate students undertaking a course and who have been granted Accreditation of Prior Learning will be subject to the relevant pro-rata fee.
5.5
Postgraduate research students studying part-time for the whole year (other than students on taught doctorates) will normally be charged half of the relevant fee. Those studying for part of the year will be charged according to the number of months of study
6 ─ Payment of tuition fees
6.1
Tuition fees are payable each academic session in the amounts specified in these Regulations.
6.2
Payment must be made in UK pounds sterling. In no circumstances is the University liable for any differences or charges arising from foreign currency payments.
6.3
Tuition fees must be paid in the manner and time notified to the student. Full details are available from the Tuition Fees Office.
6.4
If some or all of a student's fees are payable by a recognised sponsoring body (such as the Student Loan Company, Research Council, national government etc), confirmation of this must be provided on request. If this is not available or the sponsoring body fails to pay at the requested time, the student will be regarded as personally liable for all of their fees.
6.5
Any fee payment arrangements which differ from those normally offered may incur an administrative charge (see section B3).
7 ─ Refunds of Fees
7.1
Students withdrawing, suspending or being suspended during a session will be liable for fees as specified in 7.2 to 7.4, below. Any amount paid in excess of these liabilities will be refunded to the feepayer. Written confirmation from the feepayer will be required if a refund is to be made to a third party.
7.2
If a home, full-time undergraduate student, or a home, full-time student studying for a PGCE, withdraws prior to 1 December, no fee is payable. If they withdraw between 1 December and the end of the third week of the second semester, half of any element of the fee that they are personally expected to pay (ie excluding any element paid by the Student Loan Company) is payable. The University will also make an appropriate charge to the Student Loan Company. If they withdraw after the end of the third week of the second semester, the full fee is payable.
7.3
If any other taught student withdraws prior to the end of the third week of the first semester, no fee is payable. If they withdraw after the end of the third week of the first semester but prior to the end of the third week of the second semester, half of the full fee is payable. If they withdraw after the end of the third week of the second semester, the full fee is payable.
7.4
If a research student withdraws during the first three weeks of any period of study, no fee is payable. If they withdraw after the first three weeks, a pro-rata fee for any months of study wholly or partially completed will be payable.
7.5
In all cases, any other debt owing to the University will be subtracted from any refund of fees.
7.6
The University reserves the right, at the discretion of the Director of Finance, to make an administrative charge against any refund in order to recover any costs associated with making the refund

B ─ Other sums due to the University
1 ─ Examination and re-examination fees
1.1
The University tuition fees include the fees for initial examination. If a student is required to undertake a further period of study before re-examination, the appropriate additional University tuition fee will include the re-examination fee. Otherwise, a fee is payable for any re-examination, or for any initial examination where a University tuition fee has not been payable, as follows.

1.2
An additional examination or re-examination fee of £95 is payable when the examination takes place outside the United Kingdom . The British Council or other agency acting on behalf of the University may impose additional local charges for the hire of rooms, invigilation, etc.
1.3
Examination and re-examination fees must be paid in the manner and time notified to the student. If a student fails to pay by the due date the provisions of Section C relating to non-payment of fees will apply.
2 ─ Registration for thesis-pending period or submission date extension for postgraduate research students
2.1
The fee for postgraduate research students registering for their thesis-pending period and for an extension of the permitted submission date for a thesis are as follows.

3 ─ Administration charges
3.1
If a student fails to register for their course by the published deadline, without good cause, the following fee may be charged:

3.2

4 ─ Other fees and charges
4.1
The University may set other fees and charges, such as accommodation, field trips, attendance at graduation ceremonies, library deposits and sports facilities. Students will be notified of the amounts, payment requirements and other conditions at the appropriate time.

C ─ Nonpayment of Fees

Any student for whom the tuition fees, other fees or other sums due to the University have not been paid within 21 days of the due date will not be permitted to continue in their course of study, or to attend any lectures, classes or to take any examinations, and their registration status will be suspended. During such suspension the student will have no entitlement to any service from the University. Registration will only be reinstated when the outstanding fees or other sums are paid in full and at a time agreed by the University as suitable for the course concerned

Any student for whom the residence fees have not been paid by the end of the term to which the fees relate will have their residence agreement terminated

If more than a calendar year has elapsed since the date of suspension or non-registration under these Regulations, even if the relevant fees or other sums are paid the University will not guarantee re-admission to the course as the course may have changed significantly. In order to return the student must pay the fees or other sums due in full, and obtain permission to re-register through the Student Registry, and may only re-register at the beginning of an academic year

A student who has not paid their fees or other sums in full at least three weeks before they are due to graduate or to be awarded a diploma or certificate, will not be permitted to graduate or be awarded such a diploma or certificate until such fees are paid in full

A student who has not paid in full any fees or other sums due shall not be eligible to receive the benefits of any fellowship, studentship, scholarship, bursary or prize awarded them by the University

In the light of the individual circumstances of a student who has not paid their tuition fees, other fees or other sums to the University the Registrar or nominee has discretion to decide that any of the sanctions listed above shall not be applied

A student may appeal in writing, within 10 working days of the final demand, to the Registrar in respect of any sanction imposed for debt

The University reserves the right to take reasonable steps to recover all fees due and also any fees, charges or legal costs incurred resulting from any recovery action taken to recover such fee debts and other sums

For the purposes of Regulations C1 and C8 in this section, a debt to the University will be considered as a debt to any campus of the University, including those outside of the United Kingdom

If you are a returning international student seeking a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) Certificate from the University and you have previously failed to pay your fees on time (that is, by the date given on your fees invoice), the University may ask you to pay a proportion of your next year’s fees in advance before a CAS certificate is issued.

D ─ Ordinance XX111 (6): Payment of fees
No person shall be admitted to a degree, or granted a diploma or certificate unless he or she has paid the fees prescribed or any other sums due to the University in a manner and not later than a date determined for this purpose by Regulations
