Increases in fees 2020/21
These are fee regulations which describe how fees may change during your course.
Fees normally increase each year due to rising costs at the University. For new students the fees will be published at least ten months in advance of the start of the year to which they relate. For continuing students, so you can plan your likely future expenditure, increases in fees will be determined as follows:

Home undergraduate students

The University reserves the right to increase tuition fees by inflation (RPI excluding mortgage interest payments) and/or the maximum permitted by law or government policy (which may exceed the rate of inflation) in the second and subsequent years of your course. If we intend to exercise this right to increase tuition fees, notification will be placed on these web pages by the end of June in the academic year before the one in which we intend to exercise that right.

Home postgraduate research students undertaking a PhD

The University reserves the right to increase tuition fees in the second and subsequent years of your course. The University currently links fees to the maximum fee determined by Research Councils UK and this is likely to continue. If not, the policy for all other home students, below, will apply.

All other home students
|
The University reserves the right to increase tuition fees in the second and subsequent years of your course. For continuing students, increases will be no more than 5% or 3% above the Retail Prices Index (RPI) at the time the decision is made, whichever is the higher. If we intend to exercise this right to increase tuition fees, notification will be placed on these web pages by the end of June in the academic year before the one in which we intend to exercise that right.

All international students
|
Fees are normally fixed at the level charged in the first year of the course; a few exceptions to this are given in the About Tuition Fees section.

European Union students
|
The fee status of EU students is currently awaiting decisions by the UK Government following the UK’s exit from the European Union. If the current policy of treating EU students in the same way as UK students continues then the sections for EU students who meet the required definition (see the About Tuition Fees section) will be the same as for home students, above. If not, the sections for international students will apply.
